Conveyor Belt Cartoon Music

I have been searching for a specific piece of music off and on for the past four years. The best way I had to describe it was "that one song that was always used for conveyor belt or assembly line machinery in the old Looney Tunes cartoons." You know that one. Then I'd start singing it.

I'd either get confused looks from people or a response like, "Oh, yeah. I remember that. No idea what it's called." Yeah, thanks for nothing.

I'm happy to report that I finally tracked it down. The song is "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott. It's a 1937 instrumental jazz piece that was liberally used by Looney Tunes.

If Rube Goldberg had a theme song, this would be it. I see Rube making scrambled eggs and toast in the morning using pans, chickens, and some sort of bowling ball contraption while a jazz band in the nook plays this song.

Here it is in Bob Clampett's "Baby Bottleneck":

...And Zombies!

Never before have I been so motivated to read Jane Austen. Author Seth Grahame-Smith has taken the original text of "Pride and Prejudice" and added undead zombie hordes to create "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies."

I can only guess it will bring amazing dialogue like, "Why Mr. Darcy. I do believe that you have an undead creature affixed to your neck."

The book even includes 20 illustrations in the style of the original artist, C. E. Brock. I hope this is the beginning of a series. Classics...with zombies!

"A Tale of Two Cities and Zombies!"
"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Zombies!"
"To Kill a Mockingbird and Zombies!"

So many possibilities...

Blaxploitastic!

There's something magic about the Blaxploitation film genre. Maybe it's that the budget so small it could fit into the back pocket of your tight 70s jeans. Maybe it's the generous use of ill-timed explosions. Perhaps it's just the blatant disregard for a sensible plot line.

Whatever it is, "Black Dynamite" seems to have it in spades. Even though this movie was just made, the trailer looks 70s authentic. It's even true to the exploitation trailer rule of showing pretty much the whole movie and lasting almost an entire commercial break.

If you're unfamiliar with the genre, the makers of "Black Dynamite" give a run-down of 12 Essential Elements of Blaxploitation movies.

Oh, and it's a red band trailer so it's NSFW.
