The Ramones Know a Lot of Girls

[Me. A couple days ago.]

Sloppy Seconds' "Janie is a Nazi" is a great song. That would go great with "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" by The Ramones. And THAT would go well with Screeching Weasel's cover of "Judy is a Punk" (originally by The Ramones).

This has the foul stench of a mix to it. That's it. I'm making a "Girls Are..." mix. There are lots of punk bands out there and many of them sing about girls. How hard could this be?

...

[Me. Tapping my head with my finger for hours.]

"Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" by The Killers? No, I actually want to listen to this mix.

Aha! I found two more. That makes five songs. It'll be a mix EP.

Wait a tick. "Heidi is A Headcase" and "Suzy is a Headbanger" are both by The Ramones. That makes four out of the five songs Ramones' songs?

Bah! Forget it.

Now Showing: Awesomeness!

Movie poster art is rarely explored these days. Most posters require the stars face to take up at least two-thirds of the space with a huge title above or below that visage. There have been some great artists (namely the great Saul Bass), but nowadays teaser posters are really the only medium for creative poster artists.

That's why I love this recent showing of re-imagined movie posters. It is the Now Showing exhibit in London.

The artists did a fine job with some classic films that everyone should see. Next I hope they tackle some movies that nobody should ever see. "Manos, The Hands of Fate" anyone?

Massimo and the Last Man

I just flipped the last page over in the final volume of "Y: The Last Man" and, while I admit that the name of the series is kind of lame, the story is great.

I highly recommend reading it before Hollywood butchers it by chopping it up into two hours of Shia LaBeouf running around poorly delivering one-liners.

What's more is that I've found my new favorite [comic] artist -- Massimo Carnevale.

While paging through his work, I realized that all my favorite covers of the series were done by his hand. Check out this "Y: The Last Man" cover gallery.

And, while I can't seem to find the source, this image is stunning.
